Hello! Yes, I'm still alive. I've just been immersed in toddler/baby life. Both kids are now in daycare, so I'm starting to shower on a more frequent basis...well, five out of seven days, at least. Hopefully, now that things are more routine, I'll also be able to find a little bit of time to craft. I am bursting with ideas, but lack the time. In the meantime, I can share something from my mom who came for a visit last weekend.
Blankets! Huge, gorgeous, heavy blankets! She crocheted them out of leftover yarn. This was yarn that was thrifted or donated to her. My mom has arthritis in her hands, so crocheting helps provide some relief. She said that it hurts like the dickens when she's making them at night, but the next morning her hands feel much better.
To help you understand the size, here's a baby for scale:
She just crocheted tons of tight, straight lines with various types of yarn:
Neon yarn! |
Fuzzy yarn! |
Glitter yarn! |
They'll come in super handy if we have another polar vortex! Thanks, Mom! xoxo
wow great blankets.... I'll take one! As long as it's not wool.... -tagjr
ReplyDeleteDid you hear that, Mom? Special request from TAGjr!
DeleteGreat blankets Miss Merrie!
ReplyDeleteThe blankets are lovely. Congratulations on having a healthy, safe delivery! Your daughter looks like she is certainly enjoying the blankets - perhaps she will find her own crafting interests after being surrounded by so many wonderful handmade things. Please tell your mom that I said hi!
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone for your kind words. I didn't think anyone would like them. I use leftover yarn from other peep's projects, yard sale finds and general donations. I do not purchase any via retail. I use two strands at a time so they are quite heavy. Since I'm left handed, I can't figure out how to crochet but can do a single and double stitch so I go back and forth and so on. There are wools (yes Tom) , acrylics, angoras and anything else. Next time I start one I'll try to keep it masculine and all acrylic. While packing up, I found a skein of white and added it to my current one but couldn't find my hook so had to use a smaller one. SO FUNNY. I really like it when I come across yarn that has 'texture'. I've finished four of them and have another one started. Happy hooking
